Commercials

Commercials are short, stylistic, and impactful videos used to sell products, goods, or services,

You will pick a product (if you're stuck on ideas, google SuperBowl commercials) to create an original, unique commercial for.

You are responsible for identifying the goals, audience, and purpose for the commercial based on the product.

Planning

Pick an actual product that you can purchase (you'll have to be able to buy it to put in your commercial).  It shouldn't be expensive. Doritos, Snickers, and Coca-Cola are all good examples of a product that you can get easily.

Once you have a product, you need to identify

  1. The target audience (because you will write the script based on this)
  2. The purpose of the product
  3. The goal of the commercial

Email me the name of the product and the answers to these 3 questions. I will reply to let you know whether revisions are necessary or if you are ready to move on.

Script & Storyboard

The commercial will be 30 seconds. Not a second more or less.

You need to write the story/script for no more than 5 characters. The characters need to be friends or family of yours that are willing to act in your commercial, although they don't all have to have speaking parts. NONE of the filming will be done at school.

Then you create your storyboard. It must indicate:

  • Location of shot/scene
  • Length/Time of each shot
  • Camera Angle/Viewpoints (you must have at least 4 different ones)
  • Props required in each shot/scene
  • People required in each shot/scene

The storyline & script should be emailed to me for feedback/confirmation.

Filming

You'll need to check out a camera to film.

Stick with the script and make sure you are changing your camera angles and viewpoints.

  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • Microphone/Audio Recorder

Remember: Leave empty time at the beginning and end of each clip so that you leave space for transitions and clean editing.

Editing

Do your editing in Premiere.

Sync up the clips from the audio recorder to match the audio from the video clips. Then unlink and delete the audio from the video. I'm going to check to see that you did this.
