ACA Illustrator Exam Review

You'll need to review and practice in order to be successful on the certification exam.

First, log into your Gmetrix.net account. On the left you'll find "Study Guides."  Choose Illustrator and go through each of the modules, reviewing notes and answering questions.

When you have completed everything, call me over so that I can see your progress.

Second, go to page 19-20 of the study guide.

There are 11 mini-assignments that you will do to prepare for the exam.  You'll find all of the starter files in the Campus Share Drive > ACA Test Prep Files folder. Not all of the assignments below have starter files. Save them all as Illustrator files first, then export as PNG or JPG files to upload to your ePortfolio.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING ILLUSTRATOR 2021! 
If you don't have it loaded on your machine anymore, go into Adobe Creative Cloud > Illustrator > Click on the 3 dots > Choose "Other Versions" --- Choose 25.4.5 to install

  1. Create your first project - use the 1 pizza photo to complete the assignment. Save as #_lastname_1_Pizza
  2. Setup a new document - follow the directions to create and save a new document. Save as #_lastname_2_New_Doc
  3. Illustrator basics for new users - follow the directions to create and save a Spring Sale flyer.  Save as #_lastname_3_Spring_Sale
  4. Quickly manipulate shapes and effects - follow the directions to manipulate shapes and effects in these 4 documents. You'll save each file as #_lastname_4_name of each file.
  5. Draw and edit curves - follow the directions to practice using the pen tool. Save as #_lastname_5_draw-edit-curves.
  6. Create and apply patterns - follow the directions to practice creating and applying patterns. Save as #_lastname_6_patterns
  7. Add painterly effects with brushes - follow the directions to better learn the brush and pencil tool. Save as #_lastname_7_paintbrush_pencil.
  8. Draw with shapes, lines and color - follow the directions to use shapes, lines and colors to draw a building scene. Save as #_lastname_8_draw
  9. Design a logo - use the pizza slice you created from tutorial 1 to place on the tshirt. Open the 9-logo-inspiration.pdf file to create the lighthouse and plant logos. Duplicate the tshirt art board and put the lighthouse and plant logos on their own tshirt. Save as #_lastname_9_sample_assets.
  10. Create a web icon - follow the directions in using simple shapes to create the web icon. Save as #_lastname_10_web_icon
  11. Design a monogram - follow the directions to use fonts and shapes to create a monogram. Open 11 create monogram inspiration.pdf to assist you.  Save as #_lastname_11_monogram.
  12. Create Guides - watch this video to learn about and create guides. Upon completion you should have the following. Then save it as #_lastname_12_guides.
    • Rulers visible (in inches)
    • Horizontal Guide at 2 inches
    • Vertical Guide at 5.5 inches - which you will rotate so that it is diagonal at the top left and bottom right corner
    • Flower petals made into a guide

Study Guide & Sample questions.

There is a lot of good information to read through in the study guide. Especially areas that we don't always cover, like additive vs subtractive color. Ways to export. Etc.  READ IT!

You'll find sample questions starting on page 21 of the study guide. Read through, answer, and check the key at the end.

Then, you'll do the following quizzes for grades. Print the results when you have finished. Write your name on it and turn it in to me.
