3 Editing Shapes in Illustrator

Tools

You've already practiced using the shape tools. In this one you're going to build shapes, but more importantly, you will edit them to create custom shapes.

  • Direct Selection Tool (white arrow)
  • Add, Delete & Convert Anchor Point Tools (docked with the Pen Tool)

Open a new Illustrator file. Size Letter, Portrait Orientation. Save it as #_lastname_edit_shapes.

Directions

You'll find the instructions for this challenge in the Campus Share Drive. Locate the Illustrator_Editing_Shapes.jpg file. You'll need to zoom in when you get it open.

You will create each of the shapes on this file:

  • triangle
  • strawberry
  • heart
  • green wind-up monster
  • star with smiley face
  • pencil with face
  • 4 warped shapes - arc, arc lower, flag, bulge
  • set of curved lines
  • worm
  • apple
  • blue & pink tear drop shaped faces

Save it as #_lastname_edit_shapes.
File > Export > Save for Web & Devices > with the same name as a JPG file to upload to your Canvas ePortfolio

Turning it in

  1. Go to the Illustrator page of your Canvas ePortfolio
  2. Write your entry
    1. Title of your assignment (Editing Shapes)
    2. Answer the questions
      1. Which of these shapes was the most challenging?
      2. Which did you enjoy doing the most?
      3. Which tool do you think is the most useful to edit basic shapes into custom shapes?
    3. Insert the JPG image of your completed work.
