25 Shot Project

Directions

In groups of 2, video someone walking or running from point A to point B. You will have to move the camera and change the shots at least 25 times. There must be a story for your project. Don’t just have someone walking around for no reason.

When your project is finished, it should be a seamless action of your subject moving from point A to point B. You want it to look as if you have 25 different cameras set up and you are watching the person walk in real time. Once you import your video, you will need to make sure you always cut each shot to match the action of the shot before it.

Planning

Before you begin filming, you need to type and print an outline for your project. You have to get your outline approved by me before you check out a camera. Each person in your group should develop their own personal outline.

Items needed in your outline:

  1. Names of people in your group
  2. Where you are going to shoot
  3. What is your story? (No dialogue is needed)
Getting to school; Leaving class to go to lunch; Going to see a production in the auditorium; Meeting your friends between classes; etc.
  4. List at least 10 shots you plan on using in your project

Example: close up of hand opening door, wide shot of a person walking out of classroom, shot of feet walking down steps, over the shoulder shot of a person walking down stairs, shot from second floor looking down on the subject

Important things to remember while filming:

Filming

Each person needs a turn to film their 25 shots. Plan on one full class period of filming per person. Make sure you are here on time and ready to go.  Make sure your camera is in focus with good composition each time.

You should have a folder on your desktop called:  25 shots
Save ALL of your clips, files and exports here.

Editing

Refer back to your original outline for your plan. Remember you must have 25 shots/clips to edit together.

  • Clean edits
  • Cut on action so that one clip seamlessly transitions to the next
  • No transitions
  • Export as H264, #_lastname_25shots

Turning it in...

Upload the exported video to your YouTube.
Add the following post at the top of the current six weeks ePortfolio page.
