Self Portrait

Self Portrait

It's a representation of an artist that is drawn, painted, photographed, or sculpted by that artist.

You should have a photograph of you that you took in the previous challenge. If you don't, you'll need to get a camera and take a good quality photo.

Drawing

Read through the Drawing_Basics Presentation from your  https://www.icevonline.com/  account. Some of it is not pertinent to you because it discusses drawing tools that are not digital. But most of the presentation does, so take the time to go through it carefully.

When you've gone through it and feel comfortable with the material, go to Canvas, log into the Graphic Design class and you'll see the Drawing Basics Quiz. It counts as a minor grade.

Self Portrait in Photoshop

You'll draw yourself. You can put your photo in the background layer and lock it. You'll need a drawing tablet and pen. You'll create three different layers and utilize the Elements of Art to draw them.

Start with Line - use brush size 1 or 2, black, and short brush strokes to make a line drawing of the photo. This should include everything in the photo.

Then add Value - use cross hatching and other shading techniques to capture the depth and value of the photograph. Experiment with brush size and hardness as well as Brush Painting Modes to get the best look.

Last add Color - use the eyedropper tool to sample the colors of the photo. Use the Brush Tool and its settings to add color to bring life to the photo.

When you have finished, hide the photo layer and then move the other layers around to see what layer order looks best?

Also, duplicate the layers so that you can show each layer by itself, and then again with all 3 stacked on top of each other. You'll have 4 drawings of you on the same document:

  1. line,
  2. value/form,
  3. color,
  4. all 3 of them.

Save this into your One Drive as #_lastname_self-portrait.PSD and again as a JPG once you have finished.
