PS Faux Hedcut

What is a Hedcut?

A hedcut is a term referring to a style of drawing, associated with The Wall Street Journal half-column portrait illustrations. They are handmade portraits that have been in use for decades and are instantly recognizable. The artists use a stipple technique where they recreate the subject's features using dots of varying sizes and weights. It looks like money.

You Need a Photo

You need to start out with a good quality photo of you or someone who is willing to be your subject.   The photo should be a closeup, but not quite an extreme closeup! You might want to look at the video to see the example before taking yours.

Before you begin following the video, you'll need to use your selection tools to get your subject on a plain white background. It's important that you do a good job with your selections. Use quick mask mode and the drawing tablets to help you refine your selection.
