Product Design

The goal of this challenge is to create artwork for a product that could be sold. Items might include, but are not limited to:

  • Cereal
  • Soda
  • Album/CD cover
  • TV Dinner

For this challenge, your product should be fake. So you can make it as outrageous or as real-to-life as you'd like.

Artwork

You'll design the actual cover in Illustrator. But, you will bring this file into Adobe Dimension to apply to a container. So keep in mind what the dimensions (size) would be when you create it in Illustrator.

Because Dimension gives you the 3D illusion, you will also need to create one side of the object.  Think about this side being nutritional information, like the cereal box example at the right.  Again, remember to use appropriate sizes.

Save your Illustrator and PNG files as:

Adding Dimension

Start a new design in Adobe Dimension. You'll be able to choose a model (container) that is similar to the shape of the container you need for the designs you created in Illustrator.

You can resize and reshape these items to match what you need. So if you are doing a cereal box, choose the tall box or cube box and then resize it in the workspace.

Video coming of how to work through it. However, the first time you open it - it gives you some great tips if you will take the time to read through it instead of closing it out.

So your finished product will be a 3D representation of your product, sitting in a realistic environment.
