Car Chase Scene Fast Edit

You'll create a car chase scene with various types of shots, sound effects, and background music.

You'll find a car chase folder in the Campus Share Drive - it has clips and sound effects. You'll download a piece of royalty free background music from here or here.

Planning

Because all of the filming has been done for you, you do not need to do the same amount of planning as you have done in the past. However, you still need to review ALL of the clips (over an hour of footage) so that you can see what is available to you.

  1. Watch clips
  2. Plan out what clips/parts of clips you are going to use and write it down on...
    1. storyboard
    2. paper
    3. Word
  3. Decide which sound effects you will use and where (on paper)
  4. Pick your Royalty Free music (from the above links) to use in the background (on paper)
  5. Show me your plans BEFORE you open Premiere

Editing

As you heard in the 2nd video, the pacing helps tell the story more effectively. Since this is an exciting, suspenseful car chase scene, this needs to have fast edits. That means lots and lots and lots of cuts.

Requirements:

  1. Everything should be saved into the Car Chase folder on your desktop.
  2. Your completed video should be 3-5 minutes - this does not include the time for title and credits.
  3. You should have fast cuts
  4. You must include sound effects from the folder given to you
  5. You must include a background song from the links above
  6. You must follow your plan
  7. You need to include an interesting Title screen (5 seconds). You come up with the title. Add "Edited by: Your Name."
  8. You need to include a credits screen at the end (10 seconds) that includes all of the information on the Text file in the Car Chase folder. There's a lot of info, so make this a scrolling credit.
  9. You'll also add the information in this text file to the Description box on your Youtube upload.
  10. Export as an H264 to your car chase folder:  3_lastname_car-chase

Turning it in...

This will go at the top of your 3rd six weeks page.

  1. Title of Challenge
  2. Answer the questions
    1. How did the fast cuts affect the video?
    2. What other types of films could you use the fast cuts in?
    3. What types of videos would the fast cuts not be appropriate?
  3. Embed the video
  4. Embed the image of the Timeline screenshot. Make sure you fit the clips to the timeline window "\"
