Basic Video Rules

There are tons of rules to follow and break in regards to making good video. We'll start with some of the basics.

Rules to take good video start with the same rules that we use for taking good quality photos. You'll get a refresher with this presentation.

In addition to the composition, there are some Video Shooting Techniques that are specific to video.

Video Scavenger Hunt

Requirements:

  • ALL shots  must be taken with the camera attached to the tripod
  • Each shot should have action that lasts a minimum of 5 seconds
  • At the beginning of each shot, the videographer should announce which shot is being recorded before the action begins
  • Make sure you allow extra time before and after the action when recording so you don't accidentally cut off the action
  • TAKE TURNS filming  - every group member should film an equal number of shots
  • Use the checklist to keep track of who filmed what
  • Do NOT disturb classrooms
  • Be back in the class 10 minutes before the bell for EACH group member to download files
    • Create a folder on the DESKTOP called: Video_Scav_Hunt to save your files to
    • The last person to download should delete videos from the camera
    • I will not write passes if you do not keep track of time
  • I'll give you TWO class periods to shoot

Editing

Each member of your group will be editing the same clips. If you were absent, get a USB to get missing files from your group. Don't forget the one video from a partner group for the 2 Shot Interview.

REMEMBER - you are working from your desktop for video. The video programs do not do well over a network. When you are setting up your Premiere Pro file, make sure you are saving it to the Video_Scav_Hunt folder on your desktop. When you've completely finished the project, you move your folder over to your One Drive.

Watch these videos to learn about the tools you'll need to complete the editing of this video:
