journal Week 3

PAAVTC, AV 1 & GD 1, AV 2 & GD 2

You will continue to ADD TO your Adobe Spark page with you everything that you are doing, seeing, feeling during this time.

Remember:

  • 3 posts per week (average)
  • Write some information about it
  • Post videos, images, drawings etc to represent what you’re doing
  • Post the Published URL to the Canvas Assignment by the end of Friday.
  • I don’t know that you’ve finished it unless you turn it in to Canvas at the end of the week.

AV 2 & GD 2

You are still doing your Journal updates, as listed above. But all of you are also going to work on certification reviews.

Step 1: Go to Gmetrix.net – if you already have an account, then use it. If not, then click the “Sign Up Here” link and create an account. Use your LCISD email, username and password to create your account. Your email is your username@students.lcisd.org.

Step 2: Go to Gmetrix.net and log in. When successful, click the “Redeem New Access Code” and put in the code that I sent you via Canvas. I’m not putting it on here or it becomes public. Enter the Access Code and hit the Redeem button. You’ll see your courses.

Step 3: You can click on your course and get started with session 1 with pre-assessments, labs, resources, and post-assessments.

CSP – Week 3

Monday

Watch this video in its entirety before moving on to the Activity in Unit 2, Lesson 5. Activity wkst due Monday to Canvas.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

You are working on Lesson 6, Rapid Research. Please watch through this video first before you get started.

The one pager and computational artifact are due on Thursday to Canvas.

Zoom meeting on Wednesday – I’ll send out a link with a reminder.

Friday

You’ll take the Unit 2 test on Friday. I’ll open it by 9am. You will have the day to take it. Obviously I can’t control what you see, look up or hear while taking it, and I’m not going to even bother to tell you not to. You should! Because it’s been so long since we covered the first few lessons.

Zoom Meeting Week 1

I was so glad to be able to talk with so many of you this morning. I know that some of you had conflicting meetings with other CTE classes, and others had conflicting meetings with your pillow, but I hope you’ll get into a routine here soon so that all of you are meeting on Wednesday mornings. We won’t necessarily meet every Wednesday, so I’ll send out an email and Canvas Announcement when we do.

Here’s a recap of this week’s meetings:

Here’s the district’s Zoom schedule – those of you who are sleeping until noon or later should work on getting back on schedule. Just sayin’! 🙂

Journal (Updated)

PAAVTC, A/V 1 and 2, Graphic Design 1 and 2 – Good News!!! You will start your elective classes next week, Monday, April 30th!!!

This is oging to be an ongoing project throughout the remainder of our “distance learning.” This project is going to be YOU journaling about your time coping with “social distraction” during the CoronaVirus Pandemic.

I created my journal which I named “Quarantine Time.” You can come up with something clever. Originally I thought we’d make a new page in our ePortfolio where we could upload our files. But I think an Adobe Spark webpage is actually going to be a better place for it.

Watch here for a refresher on how to create an Adobe Spark Page AND submit it as an assignment in Canvas.

This Spark webpage/journal is going to be where you can record things you’re doing, your thoughts, what’s going on in the world. Really whatever you want.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Clever title for your journal
  • I would like to see an average of 3 posts per week.
  • An assortment of digital artifacts – You can write, upload videos, photos, drawings, you name it. If you take videos with your phone, be sure to turn your phone horizontally.
  • Publish & Share each Friday, copying the published link and pasting it into the Canvas assignment.

If we get back to class, or you have access to a computer with a video editing program, then you can put it all together in one video for the end of the year.

Miss you all and hope you are doing well!

Email sent 3/20 to CSP

Hello AP Computer Science Principles Students and Parents

I hope this email finds all of you well. Parents, I’m including you because your student isn’t always good about checking their school email. Please tell them to look for this please.

I’m assuming that the majority of you have seen updates that LCISD will begin online learning starting very soon. Make sure you are checking your email and the Twitter accounts of @LamarCISD, @kaye1332 (principal), @LCHSMustangs, and @kasam10s (mine) for updates.

I’ve set up a Discord Server where you & I can ask and answer questions with/of the class. You can use your school or personal email to join – it’s up to you. Please join when you get this email and respond to the General thread with your First name & Last initial and let me know how you’re doing. This way I know you got my email and know where to go to ask questions and participate in discussions.
Join here: https://discord.gg/89dUyc9. Please note that this is an extension of the classroom and the language and conversation should reflect that.

Before we start worrying about specific assignments I wanted to give you an update regarding the changes to the CSP AP exam.  Originally, the exam was weighted as:

  • Create Performance Task – 20%
  • Explore Performance Task – 20%
  • Sit down MC exam – 60%

The AP College Board has decided that they will still award AP credit for the class based on what you should be able to complete with all of the time that we have had off due to the coronavirus. Therefore, they are omitting the sit down MC exam altogether for CSP. The exam will now be weighted:

  • Create Performance Task – 50%
  • Explore Performance Task – 50%

The good news about that is that most of you have successfully completed the Create Performance Task already and still have time to make modifications to it if needed. Those that were having trouble with it, you should be working on yours right now.

If you’ve completed it and don’t think you have any modifications to make, then you should work on the video that shows how it works and the written response. You can review all of the necessary information by going to the Create – AP Performance Task Prep Unit. It’s after Unit 5. If you can’t find what you need, you should use Discord to ask questions. Email me your written response when you’ve completed it. You should also upload the written response and video to your Digital Portfolio but DON’T SUBMIT IT YET.

We were almost finished with Unit 2 Digital Information before we left for Spring Break. In order to be fully ready for the Explore Performance Task, we also need to complete Unit 4 Big Data & Privacy (10 lessons).

For the Explore Task you will be asked to complete a written response and a digital artifact about a technological innovation. It needs to be current enough that a minimum of 2 of your 3 resources is from June 2019 or newer. Check out the guidelines and start thinking about what you could do. If you want input on your idea – email it to me instead of using Discord. Your idea might inspire others to do the same topic and we want to avoid that on this particular topic.

Your new deadline to upload your two Tasks will be May 26th.

If you will have trouble accessing an internet enabled computer, please let me know ASAP. I’ll see what we can do.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you have. I’ll be sending updates with actual assignments to students soon.

I miss seeing all of you and hope you’re doing well. Wishing you all the best!
